As previously announced, Reeder acquired approximately 348 acres in Harnett County, North Carolina, to develop a new residential planned community within the Town of Lillington ETJ. Reeder subsidiary, Matthews Landing Development LLC, owns the project. Bahama, NC-based Global Construction Group handles complete construction and project management as Reeder's General Contractor nationwide. The Matthews Landing development includes approximately 970 lots, with various product lines, including single-family homes and townhomes, located just north of Harnett Central Road and just east of the US401N and State Road 2215 Highway interchange. Reeder entered an exclusive purchase agreement for the entire development with D.R. Horton, the nation's largest homebuilder.

"Despite the general slowdown in new home sales, this region of North Carolina continues to show steady growth," said Chris Reeder, Co-Founder of Reeder Land Development. "The relocation and opening of new large manufacturing, science, tech, and related businesses are generating constant demand for new housing."

D.R. Horton's Raleigh South Division Vice President of City Operations, Courtney Smith-Gonzalez, stated, "New home demand in this region remains strong. The application period for the ReBuild NC Homeowner Recovery Program will close at 5 p.m. Friday, April 21, with available federal funding committed to applications currently in process and those expected in the weeks ahead. This is the last opportunity for eligible North Carolinians who have not yet submitted an application to apply for aid through the state’s HUD Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding for Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence.

“ReBuild NC remains focused on supporting families impacted by Matthew and Florence and getting them back home as soon as possible,” said Director Laura Hogshead of the N.C. Office of Recovery and Resiliency. “Homeowners who experienced damage from these storms can still apply for help with repairing and rebuilding their homes.”

Since opening the application period in June 2020, the Homeowner Recovery Program has worked to repair, rebuild, and elevate homes damaged by hurricanes Matthew and Florence. To date, the program has completed homes for 1,048 families in communities located throughout eastern North Carolina.

Following the application period closeout, ReBuild NC will continue to complete ongoing projects and help Homeowner Recovery Program participants return home as quickly as possible. The closeout will not impact current awards and projects, case management or customer service. Current program participants with questions about the application closeout should contact their assigned case manager or call 833-ASK-RBNC (833-275-7262) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Homeowners impacted by either Hurricane Matthew or Hurricane Florence must apply for assistance by the April 21 deadline. The fastest way to apply is through the program’s online application. Homeowners may also call 833-ASK-RBNC (833-275-7262) to schedule an appointment at the nearest regional ReBuild NC Center. Visit the ReBuild NC website for more information about center locations and hours of operation.

The Homeowner Recovery Program is administered by the N.C. Department of Public Safety’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency (NCORR). In addition to homeowner recovery, NCORR administers programs that include strategic buyout, mitigation, resiliency, community development and affordable housing. ‘Thank you for saving my life.’ Man rescued by EMS crews after 16 minutes of CPR

MATTHEWS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Sitting at his piano comforts Kurt Fichtman; he’s been playing for years, and it’s part of his faith.

Kurt had a vision that his faith would be tested two weeks ago.

“I just stopped, and the first thing that popped into my mind was, ‘oh my gosh, I’m going to die soon,'” said Fichtman. “And God just let me know, ‘it’s going to be okay.'”

The days went on.

“Nothing happens, and I forgotten the feeling came over me for the most part,” said Fichtman. “Wednesday morning arrives; I go to the gym.”

Then on March 8, 2023, Matthews Fire and EMS responded to a call at Planet Fitness on East Independence Boulevard.

“One minute, I’m working out bench pressing, and the next minute I wake up in the ER.”

In over a minute, crews worked on 44-year-old Kurt Fichtman for 16 minutes, 120 compressions a minute, and just shy of two thousand compressions before being taken to the hospital.

Also, a cardiac nurse from Novant Health’s Matthews hospital was in the gym at the time. She helped revive him and was also one of his first visitors.

“I said thank you for saving my life,” said Fichtman. “Thank you for giving me a second chance.”

There are others Kurt Fichtman belives are mandatory for him to thank —the first responders from Matthews Fire and EMS.

“It was 16 minutes of CPR,” Fichtman said. “Whatever happened in that period of time, how do you even thank somebody for that commitment, and for sticking with it, and caring about another human being that much.”

The time has been hard on the Fichtman family, with his wife Elizabeth tearing up while hearing the story again and his daughter still grasping the entire recovery process in the hospital and at home.

That makes the song, ‘Someone To Watch Over Me,’ mean so much.

“I’m letting everyone know I made it. I’m alive,” said Fichtman. “Tired, but I’m alive; I’m grateful to be alive.”

Kurt Fichtman also knows that watchful eye put the proper people in his path, a path he can’t continue without thanking everyone who saved his life.

“It would mean the world to me to meet them in person,” added Fichtman when talking about the Matthews Fire and EMS. “And to say thank you for saving my life.”

If you’re like me, a girl’s weekend is the perfect thing to do to recharge and relax. Usually, my friends and I go to the beach, but we may have to road trip to Raleigh for this festival! Next month, the Annual N.C. Wine, Cheese, and Chocolate Festival is taking place and it sounds perfect.

According to Only In Your State, the yearly celebration will occur on Saturday, April 29 from 1-6 p.m. It’s at Lafayette Village in North Raleigh, which is only 2 1/2 hours from Charlotte. I’ve never heard of this area, so I had to Google it. It’s adorable! It’s a European-style village and it’s so cute. It offers upscale shopping and restaurants, and often has art events and live music. Looking at the pictures online, it reminds me of my time in Italy.

At the festival, you’ll be able to sample wines from numerous regions, taste all kinds of chocolate creations, and enjoy an array of delicious cheeses. Nothing about that sounds bad at all! And if you enjoy shopping, you’ll have the opportunity to check out the cute boutiques at Lafayette Village.

The festival sells out quickly, so if you’re interested, make plans now. Advanced tickets are $39.99 or $50 at the door. You can purchase tickets and find out more information here. Sounds like a great time! Raleigh has lots to see and do and sometimes taking a road trip is good for the soul!
